San Jose, Santa Clara Plumbing Tip: Running or Leaking Toilet

DID YOU KNOW! When you have a running toilet it can affect the cost of your water bill significantly. What should you do? The first thing to do is listening to the toilet. This will determine were the problem is located.

1.       If you hear water running constantly the problems lies with the ball cock. Remove the toilet tank lid and see if the water is draining into the flush valve overflow tube. The ball cock is the mechanism that allows the toilet tank to fill with water.  It normally has some type of float to stop the task from filling. If this fails the water will drain into the flush valve overflow tub to prevent flooding.

2.       If you hear the water runs momentarily in intervals (Intervals can rage in time) the problem lies with the flapper stopper. Normally this is a rubber plug that is connected to the flush valve and toilet handle with a chain. Simply remove the flapper legs from the flush valve and remove the chain from the toilet handle and reinstall a new flapper and you should be done.

Replacing the flapper stopper requires no plumbing experience on the other had you may want to consult Tony’s Plumbing Co if the ball cock needs replacing. Also keep in mind that the Ball cock and flapper stopper are items found in standard and conventional toilets. The newer toilets have developed new nonstandard mechanism that may require special ordering.

Trenchless Water Line Replacement

We offer a new technology now offered to our residents. Our most recent project took place in Milpitas. This project went well with no complications.
Trenchless water line replacement is a method of replacing an old water pipe with a new poly-pipe of the same or larger inner diameter. Two holes are excavated in areas of minimum damage (Lawn or Dirt). A trenchless tool is used to bore a hole from one hole to the other. The max length between holes is 45ft. A poly-pipe is then pulled through and the final connection is made.
